Peugeot 308 GTI – a flagship model will get 266bhp powerplant
The all new range topping Peugeot 308 was introduced at the Paris Motor Show earlier this year. The range-topping 308 GTI variant is expected next year as a part of anniversary celebrations of its first ever Gran Turismo, Peugeot 205 GTI. Peugeot is planning to make its GTI range, which will be able to do 150 miles per hour and it will cost you the same £25,000 for the range topper 308 GTI. The all new GTI will be powered by a monster 1.6 Litre engine.
You might think that a 1.6 Litre is a small engine, but it is not, a fourth generation THP turbocharger acquired from RCZ-R Sports Coupe is fitted in the engine. This mechanism helps the engine to generate 266bhp from 1.6 litre. The RCZ GT Coupe can’t even do that because its engine is capable of producing only 202bhp from the same unit. So the relationship between these two engines is very mild as they share the same technology, but power ratios are totally different.
There are no reports from Peugeot about the launch of GTI anytime this year, but they have confirmed that the 308 GTI will likely to hit the showrooms sometimes next year. It will be offered with special equipment packages to get more from the GT special version. It will offer LED Lights, sports seats and even sportier settings for it high performance MacPherson Stuart suspension system.
It also offers torsion beam suspension system for some extra good riding experience. Recently, Peugeot has introduced its 30th anniversary addition of 208 GTI which is further associated with the launch celebration of 205 GTI. The 208 GTI is powered by the same Peugeot engine that is ready to be introduced in the 308 GTI, but it has lower power ratings than the engine used in the 308 GTI. This engine can produce 208bhp and a torque of 221lb-ft however it can reach the 62mph mark in 6.5 seconds.
The all new Peugeot 308 GTI will hit the showrooms by next year. Prices are still to be announced, but they are likely to be around £30,000.
